Abstract
It is the purpose of this article to present 14 Case report of tetralogy of Fallot who have undegone open repair of the defects under heat-lung by-pass at Severance hospital from May, 1964 through May, 1967.
There were 8 males and 6 femals with the age distribution between 6 and 27 years. In all patients cardiac catheterizations were performed preoperatively.
A Potts-Smith anastomosis wag carred out in 1 and a Blalock-Taussing procedure in 1 patient preoperatively. prior to total correctin. In 14 cases, ventricular spetal defects were repaired by direct sutures with silk and in 2 cases and closure with prosthetic patches in 12 cases.
Postoperative complications developed in 5 cases and major cone were as follows; One was cerebral air embolism and others were pneumothorax and separation of the incised sternum.
There were 4 operative deaths in this group with a mortality rate of 28.5% Two died fo bleeding and cardiac arrest 22 hours after surgery one acute right heart failure 2 days postoperatively and one acute renal failure 3 days postoperatively. In all cases, except 4 death, postoperative course was smooth and result was good or excellent.
